Final-year undergraduate students in Bar-Ilan University’s Communication and Politics program participated in an interesting course called “Politics, Leadership, and Strategy” this semester. The course was taught by Dr. David Leitner, who lectures on these subjects in Bar-Ilan University’s Department of Political Science.
During the course, the students learned about different types of leadership, the difference between a leader and a manager, how to lead a team, how to implement strategy, and how to complete a goal, among other topics. Part of the course is a group project and this year, one group of students decided to do something different.
Jegors Krisbergs interviews Prof. Yigal Levin, a BIU expert on the Maccabee Rebellion
“Our team decided to make a podcast as our group project,” said Jegors Krisbergs, a student in the program. “We wanted to show interesting leadership and strategy, and share our love of Israel at the same time.”
The podcast was created by Jegors, who is from Latvia, Chloe Schwartz from the United States, Asher Melamed from Venezuela, Katrin Bondarieva from Ukraine, and Dan Sancovsky from Brazil.

“This podcast addresses one of the most important episodes of the Jewish History – the Maccabee Rebellion,” he said. “In modern Israel, the Maccabee Rebellion appeals both to religious and secular Israelis; in addition, Jews all over the world celebrate Hannukah, which pays tribute to this rebellion.
“However, the events of the rebellion are surrounded by mythology and legend – from the reasons for rebellion to the oil that lasted for eight days after the purification of the Temple. Our podcast takes a more historical, and even an archaeological, look at the events leading up to the rebellion, as well as the rebellion itself,” Jegors said.
The podcast will be interesting to those who want to learn a little bit more about the history of Israel and the Jewish nation than is normally taught in schools. Viewers will be able to learn from one of the best lecturers at Bar-Ilan University on the subject, Prof. Yigal Levin, who was interviewed.
