The BA in Multidisciplinary Jewish Studies and English Literature at Bar-Ilan University is a double major instructed fully in English, designed for students seeking to develop analytical skills through the lens of Jewish heritage while developing exceptional writing capabilities.  

The Department of English Literature and Linguistics establishes a foundation in the history and evolution of English and American literature. The curriculum includes the works of fundamental figures such as Shakespeare, Milton, Austen, and Dickens, alongside contemporary authors. Through the coursework, you will acquire high-level capabilities in critical thought, argumentation and sophisticated self-expression in English. 

As one of the largest of its kind in the world, the Faculty of Jewish Studies allows you to customize your curriculum to your specific academic interests. Under the guidance of internationally recognized faculty, you can choose from four concentrations that feature both introductory and advanced-level coursework. These core disciplines include: the Bible, Jewish History, Jewish Philosophy, and Land of Israel Studies and Archaeology. 

Graduates of this multidisciplinary program are well-prepared for successful careers in teaching, content writing, and publishing, as well as impactful roles within heritage organizations, community leadership, and academia.

The admission requirements for this program are:  

  • High School Diploma: Required for all applicants. 
  • Standardized tests: Psychometric 600 / SAT 1200 (EBRW 650) / ACT 25 (English
    +Reading 57). 
  • A letter of intent. 
  • English proficiency (if relevant): Proved by one of the accepted exams. 

*This degree does not require Hebrew proficiency

To earn a BA in Multidisciplinary Jewish Studies and English Literature, students must complete a total of 68 academic credits. These are comprised of: 37 Jewish Studies credits, 28 English Literature credits, and 3 General Studies credits.  

General Studies Requirement 
Students are required to take 3 credits of general courses. These can be selected from over 6,000 courses offered across the university, provided they are unrelated to your double major and are not Judaic Studies courses. Students who possess a minimum Level 4 Hebrew proficiency are welcome to take these courses in Hebrew.
