Prof. Rivka Tuval Mashiach, former Academic Head at BIU’s International School and new VP of International Affairs and the Third Mission, worked with Prof. Moshe Lewenstein for a year at the International School, but had known him for many years before. She had something different to say about him.
I had the pleasure of working with Moshe over the past year as the Academic Head of the International School. Aside from everything work related, the most surprising revelation about Moshe is that he has a secret career as a historian—he knows everything about the university!
I later discovered that Moshe possesses an incredible memory; he remembers everything he reads and everyone he meets. On several occasions, he taught us about the university’s history, particularly its first decade. To make these lessons more interactive and enjoyable, he printed cards featuring photos of Bar-Ilan’s founders and first professors.
What truly characterizes Moshe is his great curiosity and openness to new experiences. He is interested in everything, from computer science and history to archaeology and Jewish philosophy. Moshe is always eager to learn and explore, but he is equally passionate about teaching others. He has all the patience in the world to share his knowledge.
No wonder I feel that I have learned so much this year!
