Prof. Rachel Dekel, founder and Director of Ripples for Recovery: Hub for Family-Oriented Trauma Treatment at Bar-Ilan, was the first Academic Head of the International School and worked with Prof. Moshe Lewenstein in his position as Deputy President for five years. She believes he’s a Renaissance man and considers him a friend.
After working together for many years, I’d like to say goodbye to an exceptional Deputy President who has been not only a mentor but also a true partner in advancing Bar-Ilan University’s vision. Serving in this leadership role, he brought an unparalleled dedication to the university, matched only by his passion for learning, teaching, and connecting with others.
The opening of the new International School offices in May 2021: L-R: Ofer Dahan, Executive Director; Prof. Moshe Lewenstein, former BIU Deputy President; and Prof. Rachel Dekel, former Academic Head
As Academic Head, I had the pleasure of working closely with him as we traveled to universities abroad, forging partnerships and collaborations that have strengthened our institution’s global reach. Those travels revealed his remarkable breadth of knowledge in Torah, history, geography, and beyond, as well as his genuine curiosity about people and cultures.
His presence and insights have enriched our community in countless ways, and his legacy of commitment and intellectual curiosity will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact. We thank him for his dedication and wish him all the best in this next chapter at Bar-Ilan.
