Over the past two months, BIU’s International School held several online information sessions in a variety of different fields. Some of these events were aimed at potential students from specific countries, while others were open to all.
In December, there were open days for students interested in graduate degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering, and another for those fascinated by Health and Medical Sciences. In both December and January, we held open days for other graduate programs including the International MBA (IMBA), Biblical Studies, and the Land of Israel Studies and Archaeology (LISA).
During the IMBA session in January, a fascinating talk by given by Dr. Weldon Turner who provided a sampling of a course in the program titled, “Investing in Emerging Markets”. Alumni of the program, Hillel Davis and Jamie Drummer, shared interesting and personal perspectives of their experiences as well as how much the program has helped them in their entrepreneurial careers since graduation. You can watch the recording of this event here.
Speakers at the Biblical Studies and LISA open day in January included Dr. Raanan Eichler (Biblical Studies) and Prof. Shawn Aster (LISA). The topics for their presentations included “The Ark of the Covenant and King Tut’s Tomb” and “Jerusalem and the Assyrians: Miracles and Politics”.
Michael Graham, a current Biblical Studies PhD student, and Chris McKinny, an alum of our LISA doctoral program, captivated the participants with their experiences on campus and in their respective programs, gave them relevant information on the benefits of studying these programs in Israel, and spoke about career opportunities awaiting them after completing their degrees. You can listen to this session here.
We didn’t forget about our undergraduate programs and at the end of January, we had an event that focused on our multidisciplinary BA degree in Communications and Political Science. This double major provides a broad survey of the many fields and elements in the world of media and political communications. The integration of the two gives students the proper tools to analyze government and media and succeed in their chosen careers.
Dr. Gilad Greenwald introduced participants to the Communications part of the degree while Shay Attias spoke about the Political Science side and then gave everyone reasons for studying Communications and Political Science at Bar-Ilan University. Chloe Schwartz, a final-year student, and Sida Jiao, an alumna of the program, gave their personal stories to round off an interesting event. You can watch the recording here.
Countries exposed to these informative and interesting events, which attracted between 50 and 100 potential students each time, included China, India, Eastern and Western Europe, UK, North and Latin America, South Africa, and many more.
