Bar-Ilan University’s president, Prof. Arie Zaban, deputy president, Prof. Moshe Lewenstein, and the International School hosted H.E. Satybaldy Burshakov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Israel, and Ms. Madina Taushkenova, 2nd Secretary of the Embassy of Kazakhstan, at the university recently.
The Ambassador’s visit included a tour of the campus; a special welcome by Prof. Zaban with a presentation about Bar-Ilan University, its history, research, and expertise, the International School, and more; visits to the Faculty of Engineering, the Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center, Bar-Ilan’s Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials (BINA), and the Department of Chemistry; as well as an introduction to students from Kazakhstan who are studying at BIU.

Meeting with the International School and Students
International School representatives who were involved in the visit included Prof. Rachel Dekel, Academic Head; Ofer Dahan, Executive Director; and Yael Toledano, Director of Academic Visits. Three Kazakhstan students were invited to meet the Ambassador.
Madina Telkhozhayeva is a PhD Candidate in Prof. Gilbert Nessim’s Laboratory in the Chemistry Department, while Faizulayeva Akbota Erkebulankyzy and Amirlan Nazhmeldinov are BA students in Political Science and Communication.

Key Visits Around Campus
One of the main aims of the tour of Bar-Ilan University was to show the Ambassador some of the research facilities that are sources of ground-breaking research making waves in Israel and internationally – and to meet some of the faculty members responsible.
The Ambassador met with Dr. Olga Girshevitz, Head of Surface Analysis Facility at to the Institute of Nanotechnology & Advanced Materials (BINA); Prof. Gilbert Daniel Nessim from the Department of Chemistry; Prof. Zeev Zalevsky, Dean of the Faculty Engineering; and Prof. Avi Goldstein, Head of a Research Lab at the Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center.
