BIU’s Significant Presence in North America

Bar-Ilan University participates in a wide variety of conferences, student fairs, presentations, and other academic events across North America. Many successful partnerships and collaborations have developed with different institutions throughout the US and Canada. These are just a few of the activities in which BIU’s International School took part over the past few months.

Hillel International Global Assembly

Hillel International, the world’s largest and most inclusive Jewish campus organization serving 140,000 college students each year, held its annual conference in Dallas, Texas, in December 2022. The Hillel International Global Assembly (HIGA) drew more than 1,200 attendees and Bar-Ilan University’s International School team was there as a HIGA partner.

Ofer Dahan, Executive Director, Neta Moallem, Marketing Director, and Shira Gafni, Global Engagement Head for North America, met with dozens of executive directors and Israel Fellows during the conference.

The meetings were fruitful and contributed greatly to BIU’s ongoing partnerships with Hillels across North America. Topics of discussion focused on Hillel students’ specific study interests, BIU’s undergraduate, graduate, joint graduate, and doctoral programs as well as study-abroad options. The team also facilitates virtual or in-person seminars for Hillel students with BIU faculty.

“Our partnerships with the Hillel branches are significant when it comes to inspiring students across North America to study in Israel and at Bar-Ilan University,” said Shira Gafni, “and we look forward to continuing our strong relationship with them in the future.”

SBL and AAR Annual Meetings

The Society of Biblical Literature (SBL) and the American Academy of Religion (AAR) held their Annual Meetings in Denver, Colorado, at the end of 2022. This event is the world’s largest gathering of scholars interested in the field of biblical and religious studies, literature, and theology, and brings together professors and students, authors and publishers, religious leaders, and interested laypersons from around the world.

Bar-Ilan University, which has the largest Faculty of Jewish Studies of its kind in the world, was represented by the Faculty and the International School.

The event was significant for meetings with doctoral candidates, developing faculty partnerships that lead to faculty-directed programs, advancing collaborative research opportunities, and the sharing of information about BIU’s graduate and doctoral programs.

Collaborations with NA High Schools

Bar-Ilan University has developed many successful partnerships with high schools across the United States and Canada to share information about its undergraduate degree programs. Over the past few months, BIU’s International School representatives visited many of the leading Jewish high schools throughout the two countries and met with high school college guidance directors and many students who expressed an interest in studying in Israel and at BIU.
