The European Union’s program for Education, Training, Youth, and Sport, known as Erasmus+ (or Erasmus Plus), offers opportunities for international cooperation across these four sectors to foster cooperation and bridge the worlds of education and work to tackle the skills gaps we are facing.
In the March issue of the Bar-Ilan University International School’s newsletter, we discussed Erasmus+ Mobility, a program for student and faculty exchange. You can read about it here.
This month, we will focus on the various Erasmus+ projects and partnerships that enable Bar-Ilan University to collaborate with international universities and organizations. They include various Capacity-Building Projects, a Strategic Partnership, and a Jean Monnet Center for Excellence.
Capacity-Building Projects at Bar-Ilan University
Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) projects promote higher education (HE) reforms and advance innovative teaching and learning while exchanging high-quality practices and experiences between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in partner and program countries. CBHE projects are based on consortiums of institutions working together to impact HEIs and the entire HE system.
DOCMEN is the development of innovative, modern academic curricula in microelectronic engineering at higher educational institutions in the partner countries – Armenia, Israel, and Kazakhstan. Read more about DOCMEN and Bar-Ilan University’s role here.
NanoEl is the transfer of knowledge between EU higher education institutions and institutions in China, Malaysia, India, and Israel in the field of nanoelectronics and allied subjects. It also aims to adapt, innovate, and modernize existing curricula in nanoelectronics in the four partner countries (PCs).
Also in the nanotechnology field is iPEN, which aims to train students with a non-physics background in the photonic processes and tools mostly employed in a nanotechnology laboratory. Read more about the NanoEl and iPen projects, and Bar-Ilan University’s role here.
OCULUS is a consortium of educators from optometry schools in Europe (Norway, UK, Spain, and the Netherlands). Its aim is to reform optometric education in Israel and India towards European standards. Read more about OCULUS and Bar-Ilan University’s role here.
BIOART is a multinational project that includes more than 20 partner-higher-education institutions and industry stakeholders in Israel and Ukraine, coordinated by Universidad Politecnica de Madrid. The project aims to develop a multidisciplinary curriculum in Bioengineering, with emphasis on smart artificial implants, which will provide graduates the required competencies for their employability in the field of artificial implants and increase the research collaboration between the involved academic partners. Bar-Ilan University is one of the partners in this project. Read more about BIOART here.
Strategic Partnerships
Strategic Partnerships are transnational projects designed to develop and share innovative practices and promote cooperation, peer learning, and exchanges of experiences in the fields of education, training, and youth.
Overall, strategic partnerships aim to address horizontal priorities as well as field-specific priorities in the areas of:
- Higher education
- Vocational education and training
- School education
- Adult education, and
- Youth.
There are two kinds of Strategic Partnerships: those supporting innovation and those supporting the exchange of good practices. Find out more about the Strategic Partnerships and Bar-Ilan University’s role here.
Jean Monnet Centers of Excellence
Jean Monnet is the part of Erasmus+ dedicated to promoting excellence in EU studies in higher education around the world. Jean Monnet Actions aim to build bridges between academics, researchers, and EU policymakers.
Jean Monnet Centers of Excellence are designed to serve as a focal point of knowledge and skills on European Union affairs. The Centers gather the expertise and understanding of high-level experts to develop links with and between various subjects related to the EU, as well as creating transnational activities and links with other institutions in other countries.
