Meeting of Minds: From Security and Cyber Security to Foreign Affairs and Sustainable Energy

Countries from all over the world come to Israel to discuss security issues, politics, sustainable energy, defense issues, and more. Two of these countries, South Korea and Germany, added Bar-Ilan University to their diplomatic mission of exploration. The visits involved BIU’s Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies (BESA), the National Institute for Sustainable Energy, and the Center for Research in Applied Cryptography and Cyber Security. Learning and Fun Go Hand-in-Hand at Bar-Ilan

Over the past year, under the guidance of Rabbanit Devorah Evron, BIU’s campus spiritual leader, BIU’s International School has offered international students an experiential journey into the Jewish-Israeli calendar and the holidays and lifecycle events that fill it. Fruitful Participation in NAFSA Conference

North American students are showing enormous interest in the exciting option of experiencing life in Israel as a student, especially since the re-opening of the skies. Bar-Ilan University’s International School has noticed a surge in requests and applications for full-time studies, study-abroad programs, student exchange options, and more. BIU participated in the NAFSA 2022 Annual Conference and Expo in Denver, Colorado, which took place from May 31 to June 3, to continue building its collaborations with US universities and colleges for the various programs offered by the university. International Partners’ Week at Bar-Ilan University

Bar-Ilan University’s International School hosted its first in-person International Partners’ Week on campus from May 15-20, 2022. There was an excellent response from BIU’s partners who were excited to join this week-long event. Almost 40 representatives from universities all over Europe took part. Read More.

Senior Kosovo Diplomats Visit Bar-Ilan University

During her first official visit to Israel at the beginning of May 2022, Ms. Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, Kosovo’s Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, spent time at Bar-Ilan University’s Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials (BINA) and the Kofkin Faculty of Engineering, meeting with Prof. Arie Zaban, BIU’s President, Prof. Zeev Zalevsky, Dean of the Kofkin Faculty, and Prof. Dror Fixler, Nano Institute’s Director, among others. Consolidating our Relationship with Strasbourg University

Professors, management, and other members of staff from the University of Strasbourg (Unistra), France, visited Bar-Ilan University in May 2022. The visit, which was hosted by the International School, was the first since BIU and Unistra signed an agreement in June last year to offer the first-ever joint MSc in Chemoinformatics between an Israeli and French university. This visit marked the official launch of the joint MSc, which now involves an agreement with a consortium of 10 universities (Bar-Ilan and nine from Europe), who together won the EU’s highly sought-after Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) grant at the end...

Fun, Games, and Celebrations at Bar-Ilan University in May 2022

Every month, Bar-Ilan University’s International School arranges various events for international students. Although there were no Jewish holidays in May, students were treated to an assortment of entertaining experiences this past month. These included an Israeli Night to celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day; an Open Stage Night; and a tour of Haifa in the north of Israel. Read about these exciting events here.

Politics, Leadership, and Strategy: A Student Podcast

Final-year undergraduate students in Bar-Ilan University’s Communication and Politics program participated in an interesting course called “Politics, Leadership, and Strategy” this semester. The course was taught by Dr. David Leitner, who lectures on these subjects in Bar-Ilan University’s Department of Political Science. The Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy for 2021 has been conferred on Prof. Gilbert Daniel Nessim by Italy’s president “for his remarkable contribution to the development of scientific and technological innovation and for his significant role in promoting academic cooperation between Italy and Israel.” Read More.

Top Israeli and Czech Republic Institutions Share Medical Expertise

Six researchers and physician-scientists from Bar-Ilan University’s Azrieli Faculty of Medicine, the Galilee Medical Center, and the Poriya Medical Center, visited the Czech Republic from April 24-27 to share research in their fields and promote mutual academic collaboration with their counterparts at Palacký University (UP) Olomouc’s Faculty of Medicine. Bar-Ilan University’s offer to help researchers, lecturers, and students from Ukraine to continue learning, exploring, and developing their research, work, and studies at BIU has attracted many requests as well as a surprise request from a current BIU Master’s student to assist the Ukrainian Math Olympiad team. SELA High School Graduates Visit Bar-Ilan University

About 40 high school graduates from Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan visited Bar-Ilan University (BIU) last month to find out more about the different faculties, departments, and degree options offered by the university. The students are part of the SELA program, a Jewish Agency initiative for young olim (immigrants) aged 17-21 from the Former Soviet Union, who come to Israel alone or before their families and plan to continue their higher education in the country. April’s Activities at Bar-Ilan University

Every month, Bar-Ilan University’s International School arranges various events for its international students. Two very important Jewish holidays took place in April and were marked by the International School. At the end of the month, a memorial event to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day (Yom Hashoah) took place, and before the Passover (Pesach) break during which the university was closed, a Passover Seder (meal) was arranged. There was no shortage of festivities and activities arranged by Bar-Ilan University’s International School on campus this past month.
